# Is PIVY for You?

**Unsure if PIVY is for you? Start here.**

Otherwise, skip straight to [**PIVY's Practical Privacy**](/is-pivy-for-you/pivys-practical-privacy) to understand what we provide (and what we don't).

## Why Privacy Matters

Blockchains are transparent by design which means every transaction is recorded publicly.\
So once someone knows your wallet address, they can see your entire on-chain activity: how much you’ve received, who sent it, and even which apps you’ve used.

PIVY solves this by creating [**stealth addresses**](/basics/concepts/stealth-address) for every payment, making it unlinkable to your main crypto account.

## PIVY for Every Use Case

<details>

<summary>For People New to Crypto</summary>

#### WE KNOW THE PAIN

Traditional global payment solution and marketplace are slow and costly.&#x20;

* PayPal takes more than 2% in fees
* Stripe doesn't work in every country
* Wire transfers take 3-5 days and can cost up to $50
* Payment gateways take up to 5% in fees
* Gumroad takes up to 30%

and there's no transparency.

#### WITH PIVY

Instant global payments and fees as low as 0.1%\*.\
Perfect for:

* Freelancers and gig workers
* Small businesses expanding globally
* Content creators and digital product sellers

Keep 99%+ of what you earn.

{% hint style="info" %}
Right now, PIVY charges absolutely nothing in platform fees. When we do add a small fee someday, we'll make sure to tell you first and keep it low, less than 1%. You'll always get to keep what you've earned, that's non-negotiable.
{% endhint %}

</details>

<details>

<summary>For People Already Using Crypto</summary>

#### WE KNOW THE PAIN

Crypto payments are powerful, but we still deal with these problems:

* One typo in an address = money gone forever
* Deciding on which chain to settle
* Juggling multiple addresses across networks
* Test payment confirmation before settling the whole payment
* Asking for tx hashes to verify payments

...and of course, exposing your on-chain activity

#### WITH PIVY

* Get paid by sharing a payment link, QR, or username
* Privacy by default, fresh address for every transaction
* Auto-organized with tagging and notes
* Auto-bridging for USDC
* No more copy pasting long address

Perfect for:

* Web3 freelancers & consultants managing multiple clients and projects
* DAOs & Web3 teams paying contributors without address anxiety
* Privacy-conscious users who want to accept crypto without doxxing their portfolio
* Crypto giveaways or just a fun way to send crypto with friends!

The use case is **endless**! Get creative.

# PIVY's Practical Privacy

{% hint style="danger" %}
**PIVY is built for practical privacy, not illicit activity**.&#x20;

Our mission is to help honest crypto users regain the basic financial privacy they deserve, not to serve criminals, unethical hackers, or money laundering schemes.
{% endhint %}

In this section, you'll understand what values PIVY provides.

## What PIVY Provides

<table><thead><tr><th width="210.73046875">Feature</th><th>The PIVY Benefit</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>Stealth Addresses</td><td>We ensure every payment goes to a fresh, one-time address. This prevents outsiders from easily linking you to your transactions, giving you meaningful privacy for everyday use.</td></tr><tr><td>Unlinkability</td><td>Your transaction history is broken up on the blockchain, keeping your activity smooth, simple, and private.</td></tr></tbody></table>

## What PIVY Doesn't Provide

<table><thead><tr><th width="212.1484375">Principle</th><th>The Compliance Benefit</th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td>No Mixing Funds</td><td><strong>Practical privacy means zero sketchiness.</strong> PIVY keeps your funds separate, never mixing them with others. This means your transactions stay clean, clear, and easy to keep compliant.</td></tr><tr><td>No Holding Users' Funds</td><td>PIVY is non-custodial. We never hold or access your private keys or funds. This eliminate the legal and security risks associated with custodial services.</td></tr></tbody></table>

## Traceability

* Stealth addresses don’t erase history, everything stays on-chain and transactions can still be traced back if needed.
* That’s intentional: it lets you disclose fund origins to trusted parties (tax folks, auditors) when ***required***.

**If you're still wondering if PIVY actually gives you better privacy, think about this.**

***Manually linking*** your stealth addresses back to your main wallet is not instant. It requires significant, long-term effort from an attacker.

PIVY gives you a powerful defense by creating complexity: To link your activity, an attacker would need to track multiple incoming stealth addresses, monitor them over time, and successfully identify a pattern of withdrawals to a known, non-stealth main wallet address.

Using PIVY-to-PIVY (Pi2Pi, as to not get mixed with peer-to-peer) transactions further increases unlinkability, as the funds keeps going to a stealth address.

So, **unless you consent,** your privacy is protected by time and complexity.

For USDC payments, senders can pay from any chain supported by **CCTP** (like Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, and more).

\*\* At the moment, PIVY has **zero platform fee**. In the coming months, we plan to introduce a really small fee around **0.1% for stealth address** and **0.2% for stealth pool** to keep the system sustainable. We’ll keep it fair and transparent as we grow.

\*\*\* **Stealth Pool** is coming soon starting on **Solana Testnet** as our first rollout before expanding to mainnet.

# New to Crypto? Start Here

If you're new to cryptocurrency, you've probably noticed it gets complicated fast. Wallets, blockchains, gas fees, seed phrases.&#x20;

PIVY simplified crypto payments so you can receive money without becoming a\
blockchain expert. This guide covers the absolute basics to get you started.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Blockchain, The *Public Database*

{% hint style="info" %}
This is a simplified explanation to understand how blockchain works for payments.
{% endhint %}

Think of blockchain as a public spreadsheet where everyone can see and add transactions, but no one can change them. In the context of crypto payments, your crypto address works like a bank account number, but without revealing the name of the owner. So technically, nobody knows who owns which address.

But once you send or receive crypto from someone you know in real life, they can look up your address on the blockchain and see:

* Every payment you've received
* Every payment you've sent
* Your current balance
* Your entire transaction history

It's like handing someone your bank statement every time they pay you.

You could create a new address for each payment to keep things private. But if you're getting paid regularly or using multiple blockchains you'd end up juggling dozens of addresses. That gets messy fast.

**That's the problem PIVY solves.**
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Bridge, The *Central Bank*

<img src="/files/w5igIlAIFBY8tHoC2TfE" alt="" class="gitbook-drawing">

We can think of each blockchain as a bank.&#x20;

Bridges move your crypto between different blockchains. Just like you can transfer money from one bank to another, bridges let you move crypto from one blockchain to another.

PIVY supports [**auto-bridging for USDC**](/basics/images-and-media), a stablecoin pegged 1:1 with USD. This means you will always receive the payment at your preferred chain.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### On-Chain Privacy & Risks

The blockchain is permanent and public.

This creates some risks:

* [Bad people can target you](https://github.com/jlopp/physical-bitcoin-attacks) if they see you have a lot of crypto
* Anyone can track your spending habits and history
* There's no customer service for when things go wrong

Think of it like this: If everyone could see your bank balance and spending history, you'd be more careful about who you share your account number with, right?

That's why privacy matters in crypto. PIVY makes it **accessible and enjoyable**.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Get Paid with PIVY

PIVY gives you a new address for every payment automatically, just like how virtual account works. You can also think of it like a **burner phone for crypto payments**: every transaction uses a new “number,” keeping your main wallet private while still connecting securely to your PIVY account.

Instead of juggling multiple addresses yourself, you just share one link: `pivy.me/yourname` or [customize the link](/getting-started/interface-n-features/links-templates) for special purposes. If it's with another PIVY user, simply share your **username**.

Behind the scenes, PIVY uses **secure cryptography** to handle these addresses safely. You don’t need to understand the technical details to use it, but if you’re curious, you can check the [Technical Explanation](/basics/how-pivy-works/technical-explanation).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Convert Crypto to Fiat

PIVY helps you receive crypto. To convert it to fiat or government-issued currencies you have two options:

1. **Centralized Exchange (CEX)**\
   Withdraw your crypto from PIVY to an exchange account address, convert it to USDC or USDT if needed, and then sell it for your preferred fiat currency.\
   Most exchanges also support **P2P (peer-to-peer)** trading where you can sell directly to other users for local money.
2. **Peer-to-Peer (P2P)**\
   If you prefer staying off exchanges, you can use trusted P2P platforms or communities to trade your crypto directly for fiat.

**Coming soon: PIVY plans to add a built-in way to cash out directly (called an "off-ramp").**
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

# Quickstart

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Connect your wallet

{% hint style="info" %}
Right now, PIVY runs on **Sui**, but we’ll be expanding soon to **Solana** and other chains too!&#x20;
{% endhint %}

* **Connect Your Current Wallet:** Great if you're active on a certain network! Your PIVY will focus on that specific chain, but don't worry, you can still **receive USDC from any supported chain**.
* **Connect with Privy Social Login:** This is the ultimate "*set it and forget it*" option! You can simply use your **email** and also automatically access **all current AND future chains we support**.
  {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Claim your PIVY username

Think of it like your social handle: short, fun, and totally yours!\
This becomes your **personal payment link**, the first link that gets created.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Set a 6-digit PIN

This is the secret recipe that will be mixed with your connected wallet's signature to generate your stealth addresses.

{% hint style="warning" %}
**Your PIN is** **private and permanent**.\
Keep it safe and don’t share it, not even with PIVY support (we *pinky promise* we’ll never ask!).
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Ask people to PIVY YOU

**Ready to get paid and stay private?** Share your PIVY link and tag us on <a href="https://x.com/pivyme" class="button primary" data-icon="x-twitter">@pivyme</a> so we can celebrate your first PIVY! You can always create new links with different [**Templates**](/getting-started/interface-n-features/links-templates) to match your needs.

{% hint style="info" %}
Currently, only **Simple Payment** is live, but don’t worry! We’re rolling out more PIVY link types later this month, so you’ll soon be able to do even more.
{% endhint %}
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

# Interface & Features

This section gives you a quick tour of what the product can do and how to move around PIVY. Think of it as your map: you’ll see the main features, where to find them, and tips on making the most out of each one.

# Dashboard

The dashboard gives you a quick overview of your **stealth balances**, your **personal** link, and your recent activities all in one place.

***

### Stealth Balances

This is the total value you’re holding inside your **stealth addresses**.

Here you’ll see:

* The total balance converted to USD at the top
* List of crypto assets from all stealth address
* The exact amount and USD value you hold in each asset

{% hint style="info" %}
**Important**: this is **not** the same as the balance in the wallet you’ve connected. Stealth balances are funds you’ve received through PIVY’s stealth system.
{% endhint %}

### Personal Link

Every account comes with a default unique link which is the same as your username. You can simply copy it, show its QR code, or open it in a new tab.

*PS. We put a lot of effort to make the QR code cool, check it out!*

### Recent Activities

This is where you see your latest **transactions**. Tabs let you filter between **All**, **Incoming**, and **Outgoing**. The names are self-explanatory.

At a glance, you'll see:

* Crypto asset
* Amount (with '+' or '–' for flow)
* Link origin

For some activity, you'll also see ***tags*** that gives a peek at the payer's note or payer information. Click any activity to view the full details, including the **timestamp**, the **payer's address**, and the **transaction hash**.

# How PIVY Works

You don't need a crypto Ph.D. to use PIVY, but we built it strong! Whether you just want a quick understanding or need to see the cryptographic blueprint, we've got the explanation for you.

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Simple Explanation</strong></td><td><a href="/pages/02qEylh72VjSjIqv4sCB">/pages/02qEylh72VjSjIqv4sCB</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Technical Explanation</strong></td><td><a href="/pages/VKGvfA2fffJBr4B5B5xP">/pages/VKGvfA2fffJBr4B5B5xP</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

# Simple Explanation

### Why PIVY is Awesome

Let's face it: crypto payments can be a *headache*. You're dealing with test payments, chain drama, gas fees, and constantly needing a transaction hash just to prove you sent the money.

But what if sending crypto was as easy as **Venmo**?

**With PIVY, it is.** \
We take the complexity out of crypto so you can be worry-free and simply get paid.

* **Stealth mode** so no one can track your payments or balances.
* **Share a simple link** instead of a complex, long crypto address.
* **Receive USDC** from any chain ([**CCTP supported**](/basics/images-and-media#cctp-cross-chain-transfer-protocol)).
* [**Near zero platform fees**](/basics/fees/platform-fees) and [**gas sponsorship**](/basics/fees/gas-fees).

PIVY makes this magic happen using a clever system of "[***stealth address***](/basics/concepts/stealth-address)" (simply a *one-time* use address for receiving payment) and lots of cryptographic stuffs (basically complex math).

In short, every time someone sends you crypto:

1. PIVY generates a **new fresh address** *magically* linked to your connected wallet.
2. Funds are sent there, totally ***unlinkable*** to your wallet.
3. You can later **withdraw**, or **spend directly** from that address.

## Architecture Overview

PIVY uses a multi-layered cryptographic system for privacy-preserving payments which can be visually explained in the flow diagram below.

## Core Components

### 1. Meta Key Generation

Meta keys are deterministically derived from the user's wallet signature and PIN:

```typescript
// Derive meta spend key
const spendSeed = sha512(
  Uint8Array.from([
    ...walletSignature,           // Unique per wallet
    ...pinBytes,                  // User's PIN
    ...new TextEncoder().encode("PIVY Spend Authority | Deterministic Derivation")
```

#### Meta Keys Overview

PIVY uses two types of meta keys derived from your wallet + PIN.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="Meta Viewing Keys" %}

* Meta View Private Key (metaViewPriv): Decrypts payment details.
* Meta View Public Key (metaViewPub): Used by senders to encrypt data.
  {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Meta Spending Keys" %}

* Meta Spend Private Key (metaSpendPriv): Grants spending access and never exposed.
* Meta Spend Public Key (metaSpendPub): Used by senders to create stealth addresses.
  {% endtab %}
  {% endtabs %}

#### Key Security and Flow

Private keys (`metaSpendPriv`, `metaViewPriv`) are the most critical piece of security and are **NEVER EXPOSED**:\
❌ Never transmitted, logged, or shared with external services.\
✅ Only used **locally** for cryptographic operations.

Public keys (`metaSpendPub`, `metaViewPub`) are shared and used by senders for payment routing and encryption. They **cannot** be used to spend your funds.

**Usage Flow and Critical Security**

| Action                 | Keys Used    | Security Note                    |
| ---------------------- | ------------ | -------------------------------- |
| **Sending** | Public Keys | Used for address generation. |
| **Receiving/Spending** | Private Keys | Used to detect and unlock funds. |

{% hint style="success" %}
The `metaSpendPriv` is your master key. It's **never published**, **only** used for key derivation, and is securely **protected by PIN-based encryption** in your local storage.
{% endhint %}

**Key Properties**

* **Deterministic:** Your meta keys are always the same (Wallet + PIN).
* **Two-Factor:** Control requires both your wallet and your PIN.
* **Domain Separated:** Keys are unique for different contexts.

### 2. Ephemeral Key Encryption

Payment details are encrypted using one-time ephemeral keys:

```typescript
// ECDH key agreement
const shared = secp.getSharedSecret(ephPriv, metaViewPub, true);
const key = hkdf(sha256, shared.slice(1), salt, "ephemeral-key-encryption", 32);
// Encrypt with ChaCha20-Poly1305
const encrypted = chacha20poly1305(key, nonce).encrypt(plaintext);
```

**Security Properties:**

* **Forward Secrecy**: Each payment uses unique ephemeral key.
* **Authenticated Encryption**: ChaCha20-Poly1305 provides integrity.
* **Key Derivation**: HKDF ensures proper key material.

### 3. Stealth Address System

Each payment uses a unique, unlinkable address derived from meta keys:

```typescript
// ECDH shared secret between ephemeral key and meta view key
const shared = secp.getSharedSecret(ephPriv, metaViewPub, true);
const tweak = sha256(shared.slice(1));
// Point arithmetic: StealthPub = MetaSpendPub + tweak * G
const stealthPoint = metaSpendPoint.add(secp.Point.BASE.multiply(tweakScalar));
```

**Mathematical Foundation:**

* **Stealth Public Key**: `S = M + t * G` (where M = meta spend pub, t = tweak).
* **Stealth Private Key**: `s = m + t` (where m = meta spend priv).
* **Unlinkability**: Each payment uses different ephemeral key → different stealth address.

***

## Payment Flow

### 1. Sending Payment

1. **Generate Ephemeral Keypair**

   ```typescript
   const ephemeral = pivy.generateEphemeralKey();
   ```
2. **Derive Stealth Address**

   ```typescript
   const stealthAddress = await pivy.deriveStealthPub(
     receiverMetaSpendPub,
     receiverMetaViewPub,
     ephemeral.privateKey
   );
   ```
3. **Encrypt Payment Data**

   ```typescript
   const encryptedMemo = await pivy.encryptEphemeralPrivKey(
     ephemeral.privateKey,
     receiverMetaViewPub
   );
   ```

### 2. Receiving Payment

1. **Detect Payment**: System monitors blockchain for stealth address activity.

### **3. Withdrawing Payment**

1. **Derive Stealth Keypair**:

   ```typescript
   const stealthKP = await pivy.deriveStealthKeypair(
     metaSpendPriv,
     metaViewPriv,
     payment.ephemeralPubkey
   );
   ```
2. **Spend Funds**: Use derived keypair to sign withdraw transactions.

## Security Model

#### Cryptographic Primitives

| Component          | Algorithm                   | Purpose                  |
| ------------------ | --------------------------- | ------------------------ |
| **Key Derivation** | SHA-512 + domain separation | Meta key generation      |
| **Key Agreement**  | ECDH (secp256k1)            | Shared secret generation |
| **Encryption**     | ChaCha20-Poly1305           | Ephemeral key encryption |
| **Storage**        | AES-256-GCM + PBKDF2        | Local key storage        |
| **Hashing**        | SHA-256                     | Tweak derivation         |

#### Attack Resistance

| Attack Vector               | Protection Mechanism                                                                                                                      |
| --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **PIN Brute Force** | 6-digit PIN with rate limiting. The PIN alone **does not grant access** to user's fund, it needs to be combines with the user's wallet. |
| **Wallet Compromise** | PIN still required for meta keys. The wallet alone **does not grant access** to user's fund, it needs to be combines with the user's PIN. |
| **Storage Theft**           | AES-256-GCM encryption.                                                                                                                   |
| **Network Analysis** | Unlinkable stealth addresses. |
| **Transaction Correlation** | Ephemeral keys prevent linking. |

#### Security Guarantees

1. **Unlinkability**: Stealth addresses cannot be linked to user identity.
2. **Forward Secrecy**: Compromising one payment doesn't affect others.
3. **Deterministic Recovery**: Meta keys can be regenerated from wallet + PIN.
4. **No Single Point of Failure**: Both wallet and PIN required for access.

Both implementations follow the same cryptographic principles, but use chain-specific primitives, account generation formula, and transaction formats.

# Fees

Using PIVY comes with a small cost, like **gas fees** and **platform fees**. With this, the team can keep managing and improving the platform soyou get to do more cooler things with PIVY.

{% hint style="success" %}
**Don't worry, we prioritize suistainability.**

We're keeping fees *low enough* that **you'll barely notice**.
{% endhint %}

<table data-card-size="large" data-view="cards"><thead><tr><th></th><th data-hidden data-card-target data-type="content-ref"></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><td><strong>Gas Fees</strong></td><td><a href="/pages/yvDy5CqvwLoWqfvw6sFF">/pages/yvDy5CqvwLoWqfvw6sFF</a></td></tr><tr><td><strong>Platform Fees</strong></td><td><a href="/pages/5O95QUIRRThF2nDw5PIp">/pages/5O95QUIRRThF2nDw5PIp</a></td></tr></tbody></table>

# Gas Fees

## Sponsored Gas

With PIVY, **you**, as the **receiver**, don't need to worry about gas during withdrawal. Most PIVY transactions are **gas-free** as PIVY ***sponsors*** the gas for common payment assets and we’re adding more! Support may expand to new assets as **demand grows** or through future **partnerships**.<br>

If a token isn’t eligible or the sponsor limit (*currently unlimited*) is reached, PIVY automatically uses your [**dedicated gas account**](#pivy-gas-account) to cover withdrawal gas fee, ensuring every withdrawal completes smoothly **without revealing your main wallet**.

For the full list of supported tokens, check the *list* below.

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="General" %}
**Assets supported on all chains:**

* Native coins
* Stablecoins (USDC, USDT)
  {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Sui" %}
**Assets&#x20;*****only*****&#x20;available on Sui:**

* Sui
  {% endtab %}

{% tab title="Solana" %}

{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

## PIVY Gas Account

(insert image of where gas wallet is or video)

Each user also gets a dedicated **PIVY Gas Wallet**.\
It’s your backup for rare cases where:

* The token you’re using isn’t eligible for sponsored gas
* The daily sponsor limit has been reached (*if any*)

{% hint style="info" %}
You can refill your PIVY Gas Account anytime with native coins for future withdrawals.
{% endhint %}

# Platform Fees

Right now, using PIVY costs you nothing, **fees are 0%** while we roll things out. We want you to **play, explore, and really feel** what it’s like to say *“Just PIVY me!”*

Down the road, we’ll add a super-small fee of **0.1%\*, lowest in the industry**. This helps us stay sustainable and make PIVY better for all of you. We’re here for the long run, and we are looking forward to grow with the community.

***Let's PIVY it up!***

{% hint style="info" %}

## **Keeping PIVY Running Smoothly**

To maintain a healthy, high-quality platform that serves your needs, withdrawal fees are subject to change. We value transparency, and you will always receive advance notice before any updates take effect.&#x20;

Thanks for supporting us keep PIVY *awesome*!

# USDC Payments

Hello, Stable & Simple Payments!&#x20;

USDC is key to PIVY because it's like a stable, global dollar that works across many different blockchains. This means you can easily pay or get paid, even if you and your friend are using totally different networks!

**Problem solved:** *Imagine* you have money in one bank, but your friend uses a totally different bank. Getting your money from Bank A to Bank B can be slow and expensive. In the crypto world, every blockchain is a different "bank." Before CCTP, moving your money (USDC) between them was slow, complicated and requires third-party services.

***

## &#x20;CCTP (Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol)

Think of CCTP as the secure, high-speed wire service that connects all these *crypto "banks"* instantly.

| CCTP Concept | What It Means for You |
| ------------------------------------ | --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Supported Blockchains | PIVY can move your USDC between any chain supported! |
| Native Burn & Mint | When you send USDC, it's instantly destroyed on the source chain and a 1:1, authentic USDC is created on the destination chain. This is the most secure way to move assets. |
| Capital Efficiency & Great Liquidity | No locked funds or middle-men. Your USDC is always 100% real and available. |

{% hint style="info" %}

## Key Takeaways for Newbies

* 1:1 Transfers Only: You always get the exact amount of USDC you send.
* Simple & Secure: CCTP is a special, audited utility built by **Circle themselves** to make transfers easy and trustless (meaning you don't have to trust a middleman).
  {% endhint %}

***

## CCTP Fees

Heads up to the sender! Small fees are charged to the source blockchain to complete the transfer:

* Gas fee is charged on both the sending and receiving chains. PIVY handles this behind the scenes.
* For super-fast transfers, aka CCTP V2, a small additional fee based on the amount is collected when your USDC is minted on the destination chain.

***

For more details about Circle's CCTP, checkout [their docs](https://developers.circle.com/cctp/cctp-faq).

*P.S. Yes, these smart contracts have been audited multiple times by top security firms!*

# Concepts

Welcome!&#x20;

This section is dedicated to breaking down the core ideas and innovative cryptography that power the PIVY experience. Whether you're a beginner or looking for a quick refresher, we aim to deliver clear, simple explanations for complex Web3 concepts. Dive in and understand the tech that matters.

# Stealth Address

A stealth address is a way to make it much harder for people to figure out which address is receiving funds in a blockchain transaction. It's designed to protect the privacy of the recipient.

***

## How it Works

Instead of the sender sending money directly to the recipient's main, public address (which everyone can see on the blockchain), here's what happens:

1. **Stealth Address Creation:** The sender trigger some mathematical magic (based on the recipient's public key) to create a fresh, one-time-use address for that ***specific transaction***. This is your stealth address.
2. Sending Payment: The funds are sent to this newly generated stealth address. To anyone monitoring the blockchain, it just looks like the money went into a random, never-before-seen account.
3. Private Retrieval: You, the recipient, are &#x74;***he only one*** who can find and access the funds sent to that stealth address. This is because the stealth address is *cryptographically generated* using the keys that only your main wallet controls.

## Key Benefits

* **No Linking:** Since a new address is created for **every single incoming transaction**, it's impossible for outside observers to link all those payments back to the recipient's single main identity or wallet.
* **Better Privacy:** It stops people from analyzing the recipient's main address to see how much money they have or who they've been receiving payments from.

It's basically a fun way to keep your financial life nice and private on a public ledger, **aka the blockchain**!

# Self-Custody

Self-custody is the foundational principle of true ownership in crypto, best summarized by the phrase:&#x20;

> "Not your keys, not your assets."

#### What it Means

It means you, and only you, hold the private keys (the cryptographic secret) that grant access to and control over your crypto assets.

When you self-custody your funds, you eliminate the need to trust a third party (like an exchange or a central bank) to hold your assets for you. You have complete, autonomous control to send, receive, and manage your assets anytime, without permission or potential interference.

{% hint style="warning" %}

## The Trade-off

Self-custody means you have **full responsibility** over your assets, **you are your own bank**. You can freely use your assets, but If you lose the access, those funds are lost forever. **No one, not PIVY or your wallet provider**, can get them back for you.
{% endhint %}

# FAQs

Here to answer commonly asked questions about PIVY and support contact information.

<details>

<summary>Does PIVY have a token?</summary>

No token for now. We want to build something real first, not “exit liquidity” kind of project.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Why is my balance zero even if I have some PDT?</summary>

That’s expected! PDT (PIVY Demo Token) isn’t has no value. Like the name says, it’s just for trying out how PIVY works, basically your first PIVY experience. You can send it to another PIVY user or any wallet address, no gas fees needed. Think of it as play money for a taste of PIVY.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I use PIVY if I don't have a crypto wallet <em>yet</em>?</summary>

Technically yes! And that’s part of the magic.\
You can claim your PIVY username using your email or social login through **Privy**, which automatically creates a self-custodial wallet for you behind the scenes. You stay in full control, without needing to worry about seed phrases or private keys (we know they can be scary at first ).

</details>

<details>

<summary>Does PIVY have access to my private keys?</summary>

Nope, PIVY never has access to your private keys, wallet, or seed phrase.\
Each stealth address is generated cryptographically using your PIN and public key, which means PIVY cannot view or store your keys.

For more details, check [**Technical Explanation**](/basics/how-pivy-works/technical-explanation)**.**

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is PIVY self-custodial?</summary>

**Yes!** All payments go to your self-custodial stealth account, which means **only you** have full control over your funds.\
PIVY never touches, manages, or stores your assets nor private keys, it simply helps you receive them privately and securely.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Is PIVY a crypto wallet?</summary>

Not exactly, but it works *a bit* like one.\
A **crypto wallet** is an app or platform that lets you access and manage your crypto accounts on the blockchain. Unlike typical crypto wallets that connect to dApps (which can expose you to phishing or wallet-draining risks), PIVY focus is for you to **get paid and stay private**.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I change my PIN?</summary>

Short answer is **nope**. Your PIN is part of how your stealth addresses are securely generated. Changing it would break the link to your existing stealth addresses.

You **accidentally leaked your PIN**? *Don’t worry*, knowing **your PIN alone isn’t enough** to touch your funds without your connected wallet.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Treat your PIN like your seed phrase and private key, secure and never ever shared to anyone.
{% endhint %}

</details>

<details>

<summary>What happens if I forget my PIN?</summary>

If you forget your PIN, **contact support**. We will provide PIN recovery tool that **works offline once loaded** making sure no data leaves your device.

{% hint style="danger" %}
Treat your PIN like your seed phrase and private key, secure and never ever shared to anyone. Only use the tool from our support and make sure to run it **offline**.
{% endhint %}

</details>

<details>

<summary>How does PIVY protect my privacy?</summary>

Every payment goes to a fresh, one-time [stealth address](/basics/concepts/stealth-address) that no one can trace back to you. Even if someone knows one of your payment links, they won’t see your wallet or how much you’ve got stashed away.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Can I withdraw funds to my main wallet?</summary>

Of course, you can withdraw anytime to any address, including your main wallet. However, withdrawing ***instantly*** may reduce privacy since the payer could notice the linked transaction. Waiting a few days makes it much more unoticeable.

For deeper insights into how privacy works in PIVY, check out [**PIVY’s Practical Privacy**](/is-pivy-for-you/pivys-practical-privacy).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What if a CCTP transaction gets stuck?</summary>

In **very rare** cases, such as internet loss right after signing on the payer side, a [CCTP transfer](/basics/images-and-media#cctp-cross-chain-transfer-protocol) may get stuck. Don't worry, your **funds remain safe** and will be processed. PIVY’s system has a scheduler that auto checks for pending CCTP transfers every 30 seconds.&#x20;

That said, the bridging process itself may take up to **30 minutes**. You can check the status of any pending CCTP transfer directly from your **PIVY dashboard**.

If **after 30 minutes** you still don’t see the incoming payment, even though the payer confirmed it was sent, please contact the **PIVY team via Telegram** for help reviewing your transaction.

</details>

<details>

<summary>Do I need to have gas coins in my PIVY account?</summary>

**Nope!** The good news is, PIVY **sponsors gas** for supported assets: native coins, **USDC**, and **USDT**.

If sponsorship limits are ever reached (which currently is *unlimited*) or you’re withdrawing an unsupported asset, your transaction will use your **dedicated PIVY gas account**. This ensures every payment goes smoothly and if you happen to connect with your main wallet, it won’t leak your identity.

Learn more in [Gas Fees](/basics/fees/gas-fees).

</details>

<details>

<summary>What if PIVY shuts down? Will I lose my funds?</summary>

Not at all! This is the great thing about PIVY's [self-custody](/basics/concepts/self-custody) design.

Even if the PIVY platform were to go down (*and we certainly hope that never happens*), your funds are safe on the blockchain because you hold the keys, not us.&#x20;

{% hint style="success" %}

## PIVY doesn't own, hold, or store your assets. This means you will always have access to your funds no matter what happens to PIVY.

PIVY is just the platform with cute interface to make crypto payments easy and fun for you! Your assets are all tracked securely on-chain. Therefore, you are completely ***not dependent*** on PIVY.
{% endhint %}

We are ***decentralized*** and ***trustless***, powered by cryptographic math. To prove it, *if you ever need to*, we can provide publicly accessible script that you can run by yourself offline to access and move your funds, using just your private keys.

Your money is only tied to *complex* math, not to us.\
Your financial independence is totally unbreakable
